This forms the vast majority of the main story. John, still about 70 degrees vertically dangling, is feeling the effects of the blood rushing to his head. Whilst drills fail to make an impact, rope and pulleys are being put in place to drag him out. Susie, more pragmatic and upfront understands that in order to get John out, they’ll need to break his legs and perhaps a few other things too. Aaron is reeling from a recent cave rescue failure that left three other cave rescuers for dead and so he is not prepared to let John die, even if that means his life is compromised in the process. Josh calls for help and as cave rescuer Susie tries to assess the main issues, fellow rescuer Aaron gears up to take over watch. Whilst both John and Josh were experienced cave explorers, the way how the incident occurred geographically meant that Josh couldn’t get any purchase to pull John up. John had taken a wrong turn unknowingly and ventured off the known path and in sliding down a very tight 90 degree turn and slide, he’d become absolutely stuck. The true story sees John getting stuck in a near vertical shaft that was previously unexplored. John Jones and his brother Josh go spelunking in the Nutty Putty Cave in 2009. John, hanging at a 70 degree angle, is fighting for his life. Getting stuck in a cave, drinking lemon Gatorade, hanging upside down for over an entire day and the empty darkness of the cave system. John and Emily are greeted by Josh at the airport. Unknowingly taking a wrong turn and exploring uncharted areas of the Nutty Putty Cave, this movie follows the rescue effort of John, who gets completely wedged stuck in a narrow shaft. The resulting death could not "happen to anybody".just someone behaving in a reckless, irresponsible manner. In 2009 John Jones and his brother Josh went down into the Nutty Putty Cave for some exploring as John and his wife Emily came home for a visit. Anyone with common sense and reasonable cognitive function, much less an experienced speluncker, must understand there is a very real danger of getting stuck in this scenario, whether he was in the birth canal or not. Seeing his body was too large for the space available, he pressed on. The man continued on, choosing to follow the passage in a downward direction, head first, to the point where he was almost in a vertical position. If he were in the correct passage and found himself physically too large to pass through and pressed on, regardless, it is a mistake based on extremely poor decision making that could not have "happened to anybody". It does not matter where he actually was. ![]() What I'm saying to you is it does not matter where he thought he was (the birth canal). It hit me in the face when I first read them. Unfortunately the website for Nutty Putty cave seems to be down, lost to time. Not saying all this to make commentary against you, merely an interesting series of fact I've had ingrained in my mind and haven't had an appropriate place to spit it out. Days, weeks after the state of Utah decided to seal Nutty Putty cave many cavers or asshats thinking they're cave experts expressed online how they wished they wouldn't seal up Nutty Putty just because Jones' death. Nutty Putty had a charted map and he intended to pass through a channel called the Birth Canal, IIRC, however, as we all well know, Nutty Putty had several tunnels that branched off into uncharted areas because they were too hard to navigate and couldn't be mapped out.īefore Jones' death Nutty Putty had been a frequent tourist spot. The problem was Jones didn't realize it was a random hole. ![]() Thanks to /u/Jaxspider for the CSS & Snoo!
